Meet Mikey! This stunning boy was found wandering near an oilfield in horrible condition. He was emaciated and one of his hips was dislocated. Unfortunately it had been that way for some time so the vets weren't able to put it back in the socket, and Mikey had a surgery called a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO). He did well for his surgery and is currently undergoing physical therapy to help him build up strength in that leg and rebuild the muscle that he lost while he was injured.

Unfortunately Mikey developed some problems with his front leg a few weeks after surgery. After rounds of Xrays and medications, we did a CT scan and it was discovered he likely had a fracture in that elbow related to whatever trauma dislocated his hip. It healed just a little unevenly to cause a scalloped pattern on the joint surface that should be smooth, and tore some cartilage. So another surgery for poor Mikey, to smooth out the rough surface and hopefully relieve his pain.

Mikey came into rescue at about 85 pounds but he probably will fill out and be a healthy weight at about 100 lbs. He has a smaller frame so he won't be a huge Mastiff. We're guessing his age between 1 and 2 years old.

Despite whatever trauma he endured to cause the hip injury, Mikey is one of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet. He is so loving and just wants to be loved. It's amazing to see dogs in this condition be so affectionate. Mikey doesn't know a stranger, that is for sure! He's done well with the other dogs he has met. Mikey does well with older kids but we're not sure about young children at this time. Once he finished his physical therapy we can see how he would do.

Mikey is being fostered in Yukon, OK.
