Mastiff : : Male (neutered) : : X-Large
Meet Sly! He came into GPMR with several of his relatives after being rescued by a local SPCA from a neglect situation. The breeder of these dogs was not providing adequate food or any vet care and turned them over to the SPCA. They were extremely underweight when they arrived at the SPCA. All of these dogs lived together and but were not socialized at all outside the home, and so in new situations they are very fearful. In their foster homes, they are doing great and do not show many signs of fear at all. We are working on leash training as only one of the dogs knew how to walk on a leash, the rest just dropped to the ground and wouldn't move. All of the dogs had fleas, intestinal parasites, and varying degrees of skin/ear/eye infections. The SPCA did an amazing job getting them started on the road to good health!
Sly is 2 years old. He was one of the less fearful dogs in this group but while he has adjusted great to his foster family, he is very scared in new situations. He also is learning the comforts of sleeping on the couch and in bed with his foster mom. Sly is a velcro Mastiff for sure. When we first tried crating him, he panicked and immediately tried to break out of the crate. It's not uncommon for these guys to have some separation anxiety like this going through the rehoming process. We is adjusted to the crate now and does well in there, primarily used when his foster family leaves the home otherwise he will chew stuff up. Sly's adoptive family will need to be patient with him through this adjustment. He should have another dog as a canine companion which should help. He would love to have a family who is home most of the day. He is also good with cats! Sly lives with teenagers and has become increasingly uncomfortable around kids of any age. Therefore we are seeking an adult only home for him. Sly is being fostered in Edmond, OK. More about SlyGood with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
