Meet Brooklyn! She is 4 years old in May. She has the most gorgeous brindle coat we've seen in a while. Just stunning! (not that we are biased :)
Her story before she came to us is a bit sad. Her owner got her as a puppy. Last year he got re-married which brought young children into Brooklyn's life. Her owner reported that she didn't like the kids and so they kept her isolated in a garage for several months before we came into Rescue. We can only guess that these kids did not treat Brooklyn well! We've not seen any such issues while we've had her. As a precaution, she will not be placed in a home with kids under 12. Right after we got Brooklyn we realized that something was not right with her back end. She had very little muscle on both of her back legs. We had xrays taken and evaluation at the Vet, who reports that Brooklyn has torn the cruciate ligaments in both of her back legs at some point. Due to the fact that these are old injuries that her body has adjusted to, and she is getting around well, we are trying physical therapy to build up muscles in her hind end and help with her overall strength. Unfortunately the garage confinement she had in her former home likely just made her situation worse since she couldn't really get any exercise. She's on a low dose of anti-inflammatory medication that she'll need to stay on for life. And of course all of the supplements as well to help her joints. Brooklyn does great with other dogs and cats too! We recommend a home with calmer dogs as she's not going to be able to handle the rough play that can come with more active dogs. She's going for short daily walks currently and doing well with that. She will need to stay a lean healthy weight as well. It will be a slow process to get her strength back up, but we'll get her there! Other than her knee issues, Brooklyn is a healthy girl and tested heartworm negative. She really is just a wonderfully sweet girl! Brooklyn is being fostered in Tulsa, OK. More about BrooklynGood with Dogs, Good with Cats
