This is JJ, aka Jabberjaw (or should be Jabberjowls!).  He is about 4 years old and was rescued in the nick of time from a shelter in rural AR.  He is a BBM - Big Beautiful Mastiff!  JJ is in rough shape medically.  He weighed 165 pounds at his first vet visit, and was emaciated.  His back legs were extremely swollen and he had bad ear infections.  He tested positive for a tick disease and the vet thought that is what caused the swelling in his legs.  The swelling has gone down quite a bit, but when he had his legs X-rayed they showed that he has osteomyelitis which is an infection/inflammation of the bone.  Also the right leg has pieces of buckshot in the tissue around the joint.  The vet said she  would not recommend trying to remove them because they have probably been there for a long time.  We were stunned to learn that someone had shot at this wonderfully sweet dog....

You would never know by JJ's personality that he has all of these medical problems.  He is a sweet and happy boy who loves nothing more than to constantly be loved on.  He will let you know it too by either putting a paw on you or talking (barking!) to let you know he is waiting for some love and affection.  JJ is relatively well behaved in the house except that when left alone, he will get to anything on the countertops and has learned to open the upper cabinets and pull things out.  He is currently being fostered with other dogs does great.  He is also good with kids but because of his size, older kids would be better.  He is a little too much for small animals though - his feet are huge!  He will also need to be kept on anti-inflammatory medication long term because of the buckshot pieces in his leg.

JJ is being fostered in Broken Arrow, OK.  He is on medical hold right now until the vet releases him for adoption but feel free to complete an application if you think this is the boy for you!
