GPMR does not have a shelter. All of our dogs are kept in loving foster homes. We must have a completed adoption application on file before meeting any of our mastiffs.

Meet Samson! This handsome boy came into GPMR when his owners were moving and not able to take him. He is about 3.5 years old, and we think probably a mix of two Mastiff breeds. Samson is good with other dogs and kids 5+ die to his size, not sure about cats. He has never been crated and really doesn't need one. He isn't a barker or chewer and is well behaved in the house and uses the doggie door.

Samson loves to go for car rides and for walks. He pulls a little bit in the beginning but walks well on the leash after the first quarter mile or so. Samson loves to snuggle and play with toys. He isn't much of a watch dog. But if anyone is wanting a big ole teddy bear he is perfect!

Samson came into rescue limping some on his left rear leg. We had xrays done at the vet and he has an old ACL tear in his left knee. The vet said it appears to have some scar tissue that has developed as a result and stabilized the knee some, and since he only limps intermittenly, she isn't recommending surgery at this time. The right knee felt slighly loose like he may have a small tear in that ACL, but the knee feels pretty stable at this time. At 154 pounds, Samson is pretty overweight which probably contributed to these issues. The vet said getting some weight off of him will make a big diference, so Samson is currently on a diet. He takes generic Rimdyl as needed for limping, as well as daily joint supplements and natural anti-inflammatory supplements.
 
Samson was kept as an outside dog before but needs to be inside with his people. Another dog companion would be a bonus to keep him company while his humans are at work. A house with less stairs is better and with people who will keep him active with daily walks.
