Mastiff / Mixed : : Female (spayed) : : Adult : : X-Large
Meet River! She is a Mastiff mix. She was running loose at a local airport for about 2 months, it took a month to catch her. She was very scared and it took several weeks to gain her trust enough to put a leash on her. Sometimes when dogs get lost, their flight response kicks in and they just run away from people when they get too close.
But guess what? She was microchipped and the owner was contacted. We found out River was lost back in February 2020 and lived approximately 80+ miles from the airport where she was found. The owner had just gotten her when she disappeared. The owner did not want to come get River and said they didn't want her back, so they surrendered her to GPMR. The Vet says River is between 1.5 and 2 years old. She acts closer to the 18 months. She tested heartworm negative but is on antibiotics for a month for Ehrlichiosis, a tick disease. She is a smart dog and wants to please. She has the mastiff trait of being a Velcro pup and wants to be with you all the time. She loves to give kisses and plays well with her foster sister.
River is more athletic and agile than most Mastiffs. She is housebroken and loves to go for walks and walks well on a leash. She still needs basic training but she is working on it. River's home needs to have a securely fenced yard and since we don't have a history of her with kids, a home with older kids 12+ or an adult only home would be best for her. She would love to have a K9 companion to play with! It's unknown at this time how she is with cats. River is being fostered in Shawnee, OK. More about RiverGood with Dogs
