***Rook's adoption fee is waived!***
Meet Rook! Rook was found as a stray and ended up in a TX shelter. He was pulled just before his time was up there. Rook was a little scared in the shelter but once we got him out of there, he is a totally different dog! He loves to run and play with the other Mastiff in his foster home. His foster mom has worked a lot with him, he's perfectly house trained and crate trained! She's also been working on basic obedience training. Rook is estimated at 5 to 6 years old. He is a gorgeous Apricot boy. Like many of our rescues, he tested positive for heartworms and has completed treatment, has tested negative for heartworms and is ready for adoption! He weighs 115 pounds. Rook is a super sweet boy and an easy keeper in a house that has a routine-oriented famly! However he doesn't like changes in his routine and that can cause him some anxiety. For example his foster mom went out of town and had a petsitter while she was gone. He did great for the petsitter, but started a bit of pacing and panting for a couple of days after his foster mom returned. We've started him on an inexpensive anxiety medication that he takes once a day and it's really helped with things like vet visits, he doesn't get as nervous with those now. Rook's ideal home would be one that is very routine oriented and whose family doesn't travel a whole lot. He doesn't do well in boarding situations and would need a petsitter while his family is out of town. We would prefer an adult only home for Rook as the busy behavior of kids would probably be too much for him to handle. He likes a quiet home without much change! His adopter will need to understand that he'll have some extra anxiety during the rehoming process and be patient to allow him time to adjust to his new routine while he settles into a new home. He loves to play with other dogs and so we would love a home that has a canine companion for him. Recently Rook has experienced occassional back pain when he plays to hard with the other Mastiffs in his foster home. He was evaluated by the vet including Xrays and they didn't find a cause for it, so they prescribed muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatories to give as needed to manage that. Rook is being fostered near DFW, TX. More about RookGood with Dogs
