Mastiff : : Female (spayed) : : X-Large
Meet Rizzo! This sweet girl found was found as a stray and ended up in a shelter. After 2 weeks, no owner came forward and so she came into GPMR.
Rizzo doesn't know a stranger. She loves everyone she meets. She would love to be in a home with kids age 5 and up. Her favorite things are getting attention and love from her people. We're working on leash training and basic commands and she's doing great. Rizzo would love to be in a home where someone is home part of the day. She has some mild separation anxiety and if she is not crated when home alone, she can be destructive. This happens with many Mastiffs and sometimes it's only temporary and other times a longer term issue for the dog. Only time will tell! We don't think Rizzo was well socialized with other dogs in her previous home. She seems to be scared meeting new dogs and she does growl at them at first. Currently she's fostered with a male Mastiff and with slow gradual introductions she's doing great with him and no more growling. She would not be a good candidate for a multi-dog household but a home with one other quiet dog would be a better match for her. Rizzo will chase anything small, so no cats or small dogs for her. Rizzo did test negative for heartworms, yay! She did test positive for a tick-transmitted infection called Ehrlichia and is on antibiotics for that even though she's asymptomatic. This is a pretty common infection we see in our rescues and the vast majority of dogs never show symptoms. She does have some benign cysts which again are pretty common in Mastiffs. She's a healthy girl, a little too healthy as we had to put her on a diet when she came in! If you think Rizzo is the match for you, please fill out the adoption application on our website. Rizzo is being fostered in Guthrie, OK. More about RizzoGood with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids
