Meet Otis! He is the sweetest giant you can ever meet. Giant would NOT be an understatement, Otis is very big for his age - about 1.5 years old. Otis was in two different homes before coming to GPMR. They said it was a financial issue but he can be a lot of dog!
This sweet boy really does act like a puppy. He is still unaware of his size, he can be very bouncy and hyper and knock things over around the house, and sometimes even his people! Obviously he does not mean too/, he just doesn’t have his size recognized yet. Otis is crate training and house training. However, Otis being crate trained he is NEVER in his crate longer than 4 hours a day, and sleeps well through the night free roam with his other fur siblings. Otis is good with other medium to large size animals. We say this because he’s so big and he likes to “paw” at you, he may hurt a smaller animal on accident. Otis has shown some “food guarding” where he just doesn’t want to be bothered while he’s eating. He can eat out with the others, just away from them. Or he can eat peacefully in his crate or laundry room. He has not shown any other issues. Otis is going to need a lot of general obedience training, continued work on his good guarding, and will need someone who is dedicated to spending ample time with him and training him. We will not consider any homes kids under the age of 15. He does well with larger dogs, we think he would do OK with cats and in the process of evaluating him more with small dogs. Otis really enjoys the water! He would LOVE to have a kiddie pool at his home! Otis also enjoys chasing lights, reflections, and shadows. He is very fixated on these things, and he can be hard to redirect when he gets this way, so you'll really need to watch him, and make sure you don’t allow him to fixate to long, or he might break something accidentally. Otis did test positive for heartworms and so he will be avaible once he's completed his treatment! He came in with some swelling on his front elbows but the vet said they will resolve over time by providing him soft bedding and no treatment is needed. Otis is being fostered in Midland, TX.
